A meta-orientation that recognizes biological sex as the basis for attraction, rather than gender. Supersexuals can engage in heterosexual and/or homosexual sex, depending on how they identify. They are aroused by homosexual or heterosexual sex, or primary and secondary sex characteristics, and not gender.
Supersexuality includes several orientations, and is indicated by the prefix "super-", namely: superstraight, supergay, superlesbian, and superbi.
"Super" in supersexuality is defined as "beyond or especially" and is not supremacist. Supersexuals respect the validity of gender-based attraction but don't feel it describes them best.
Types of Super Sexual
Superstraight an orientation that falls under the supersexual umbrella, meaning that they are attracted to their partner's sex. Superstraights in particular are heterosexuals who are attracted to the opposite sex's complementary suite of primary and secondary sex characteristics.
Superbisexual is an orientation that falls under the supersexual umbrella, meaning that they are attracted to their partner's sex. Superbisexuals in particular claim to be attracted to both sexes' complementary suite of primary and secondary sex characteristics.
Supergay an orientation that falls under the supersexual umbrella, meaning that they are attracted to their partner's sex. Supergays in particular are homosexual males who are attracted to a complementary suite of male primary and secondary sex characteristics.
Superlesbian an orientation that falls under the supersexual umbrella, meaning that they are attracted to their partner's sex. Superlesbians in particular are homosexual females who are attracted to a complementary suite of female primary and secondary sex characteristics.
Controversy surrounding supersexuality comes from claims of being a transphobic meme and not a genuine orientation. The original supersexual orientation, superstraight, caused an uproar when some people began stating it is damaging to the community by including cis heterosexuals and using sex-based standards of attraction. As a result, internet hate groups attempted to adopt the label as way to invalidate transgender people and cause unrest in the LGBT+ community.
However, those who are genuine supersexuals state it is their orientation and they cannot change it, therefore they are equal to other orientations, and that supersexuality is distinct from other sexualites such as straight or gay. Those who refute this say a preference cannot be a sexuality, while supersexuals maintain that referring to their orientation as a mere preference is a misrepresentation of supersexuality and is harmful to them and the LGBT+ community. To ameliorate this controversy, supersexual communities have consequently made an effort to welcome transgender people and validate their gender while simultaneously defending that gender-based attraction is distinct from sex-based attraction. This is still an ongoing debate.
Supersexuality, first dubbed "super straight", was coined in late February 2021 by a Tik Tok user. He would go on to say he is now super straight and explained his reasoning to coin super straight, saying how he is not transphobic for not dating transgender women, as he does not personally see them as "real women" and he couldn't be called transphobic because of being superstraight, this caused some to believe Kyle is transphobic for saying he doesn't see trans women as real women, however, some defend his point saying he doesn't mean to not call them not real women but in his eyes it isn't what he is actually looking for. His video went viral and was shared across many platforms, some see his videos and claim he is defending transphobia with superstraight, some disagree. As the argument goes on and spreads, in early March 2021, 4chan trolls found the video and initiated a transphobic campaign, adopting the term to spread neofascism and harass the transgender community. This is deemed by some as corruption of supersexuality and is not considered valid. Genuine supersexuals maintain that trans people are unwelcome as supersexuals and invalid in their own identity.
As of now super straight and other supersexual communities are not permitted on Reddit. Because social media platforms are removing content with the supersexual flag, regardless of content, those who are supersexual claim they are the subject of superphobia, gatekeeping, and oppression by the larger LGBT+ community, which has thus far been hesitant to accept their validity.
